Seeking therapy can feel complicated for doctors in a way that it doesn't for other people. There are concerns about confidentiality, about what it might mean professionally, being seen as someone who can't cope. And there's rarely enough time in the day even to think about it, let alone act on it.
These are real barriers. And they're understandable. But they also mean that doctors often carry far more than they should, for far longer than is good for them.
I have specialised in working with doctors and healthcare professionals for over 16 years in my private practice. I understand the particular pressures that come with medical life: the weight of responsibility, the cumulative toll of difficult cases, the gap between the professional self you present at work and how you actually feel inside.
Maybe you are experiencing burnout, or the creeping numbness that comes from years of sustained pressure. Sometimes it's a specific incident that's stayed with you. Anxiety and sleep difficulties are more common than the profession tends to admit. Relationship strain, challenging colleagues and the difficulty of switching off outside work come up regularly too.
There's no threshold to meet before getting in touch. You don't need to be at crisis point. If something feels off and you want a confidential space to think it through, that's enough.
Our sessions are confidential. I am registered and accredited with BACP. I am a BUPA registered provider, and an NHS registered practitioner. My practice is fully GDPR compliant.
If you have specific concerns about confidentiality given your professional situation, please do raise them. It's one of the first things we can talk through together.
I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation online, with no obligation to continue. It's simply a chance to talk, ask questions and see whether we're a good fit.
